Informational Announcement
Meridian Community:
In early June, we (a few Meridian CUSD 223 Leadership Team members) were contacted by a parent group asking for support in helping to fight racism in our communities and within our schools. Since that communication, the district has had many conversations on this topic at multiple levels. The purpose of this statement is to affirm that the district is firmly committed to helping fight racism and recognize our role as a community leader in this endeavor. While we believe in the steps we have taken to enact our mission and to create civic-minded community contributors, we firmly recognize that we have not taken systematic and proactive steps to combat racism. Hearing stories from individual students and families regarding this made it clear that we have work to do.
As we progress, Meridian 223 is committed to working together with our staff, students, and community leaders to help move this conversation forward in our district and in our community. Most importantly, we are committed to doing whatever is necessary to ensure all of our staff and students feel safe, valued, and honored within our schools.
